Dear Colleague:

We are excited to once again host this year’s workshop series and bring together California’s domestic violence services providers and allied organizations. In addition to legislative updates this year, presenters will provide expert consultation and a forum for discussion on strategies for promoting implementation of laws in a way that best protects victim safety and ensures offender accountability. The following topics will be discussed:

· Update of new laws and the impact on domestic violence victims
· Overview of state and federal confidentiality and privilege laws and strategies for implementing SB 407 – Domestic Violence Counselor Privilege
· VAWA Update: Protection for immigrant victims of domestic violence
· Existing Legislation (Civil/Criminal): Structural challenges and recommendations for implementation
· Current trends and "hot topics" related victim safety and offender accountability

The California Partnership to End Domestic Violence is a statewide, membership-based coalition of domestic violence service providers and others with a core function or purpose of providing statewide training and technical assistance and related services to build the capacity of domestic violence intervention and prevention service providers, organizations and related disciplines to meet the diverse needs of victims of domestic violence and their children.

We have also spent countless hours strategizing and developing new ways to influence policy in California. With support from our members and allied partners the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence has been responsible for the passage of over 100 pieces of legislation.

As we continue to move forward in efforts to end domestic violence, we encourage you to take full advantage of the various workshops, training and conferences that we provide throughout the year. Each of our training is designed to assist you in gaining new and different tools to help in your everyday work.

As always, CPEDV staff can provide the most up-to-date information on domestic violence and other issues that affect your work and can provide you with on-site technical assistance and training to further examine these issues.

We hope that this workshop provides you with an opportunity to make new friends, visit with old ones, and provide each other with the support and expertise that each once of you possesses. In addition, we hope this workshop can provide a way to view domestic violence not only as an issues that affects and individual, but also as a human rights issue that affects our entire community.
